SOMEHOW, IT ALL WORKS OUT

No one ever steals in our neighborhood!

This was a classic case of "Just do what I ask!" but  I had to get into a discussion about it with my son. I was really hoping to help him see that he was not being very logical about his statements, and he was arguing for .... well, I'm not quite sure what his point was.... I don't think we ever resolved it, but it left me laughing from the sheer frustration of teen logic.

Last year, at this time, my oldest son was out of control. While I was at work all day he would barely go to school, I would receive daily emails from the school letting me know the latest truancy counts. My neighbors would text me that the music coming from the house was too loud and there were lots of kids at the place. I would be in a panic at work. I was especially worried about what he was exposing his younger brother to.

Homework, it's a bad word in our house, like the one that must not be named. Especially on Sunday night, four weeks before end of school. But I did my best to speak teen and bring up that evil word only to be foiled by the true definition of the word "done".

Mom, did you hear my alarm go off?

I was hoping by his senior year of high school my oldest would be able to wake up to an alarm clock all by himself.  I had reason to hope... there were a few years where he was completely responsible for getting himself to school. He did it when I had to be to work by 8am and I wasn't working from home. But at 19, in the last weeks of his senior year it's become a morning joke...  what is he going to say this morning... "My alarm didn't go off", "Why didn't you wake me up?',  "I'm not feeling well can you call me out of school?"   After months of "It's not my job" and "No, you have to go to school"  he comes out with "Did you hear my alarm?"  like that would make it alright that he's late because I didn't hear it...  LOL  I said yes and I heard you push snooze about 4 times.
