Graduating High School is a big deal, for my oldest son it has been an emotional rollercoaster ride. He is a bit older than most seniors at 19 (due to a "do-over" in 1st grade) but his grades are not college worthy. So he conflicted, he has all the excitement to move out, be on his own and has even told me "You really don't need to parent me anymore".. But he's caught in the limbo stage of I'm an adult but I can't support myself yet so I need to stay home and live with my parents... (heavy sigh... ) He can easily get a job, he's charming, handsome, social and knows how to use it to his advantage. But, he doesn't seem to hold on to a job more than 3 months. He also can't decide if he's:
So far he has had ideas for pool cleaning, dog walking, car detailing, and, of course, a surf instructor. Then with 12 days from graduation he quits his job at Macaroni Grill, to focus on studying (yeah right...) so imagine my surprise when he comes home and says "We (him and his friend) found the perfect place in Huntington Beach !"
Me: Really ? What's the rent? K : $2300 a month Me: Hmmm, how are you going to afford that much rent? K: We are going to get a 2 more homeys and split the rent. Me: That's about $575 a month each, not including utilities right? How will you earn that? K: I'll figure it out and we will just get some guys that make more money and they will pay more rent. Me: Are you going to give them something for more rent? Like a bigger room or garage? K: No, maybe a bigger shelf in the fridge but we will share food, it's all chill Me: I don't think that's how it works, you need to give them more for their money. K: Mom, you don't get how it works... if you make more, you pay more Me: Hmmm... ok good luck with that. Stay tuned on this story... |
